Student Volunteering Opportunities
There are loads of different ways that students at the University of Leeds can get involved in volunteering. The Volunteering & Community (V&C) Office is the place to sign up for any volunteering opportunities. We’re on the first floor of the Union building, and you can come and visit us every weekday during term time between 1.00pm and 5.00pm.
Try It!
If you’re not sure you want to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity but would like to have a go at helping your local community then sign up to Exchange. All you have to do is agree to five hours per term to help out. It could be painting a local youth club, or cutting an elderly neighbour’s hedge, helping a member of the community get online or designing a poster for a community group! Just fill in a registration card in the Volunteering & Community Office and hand it back to us. We’ll put you in the mailing list and contact you when opportunities come up. You choose one you like and we’ll link you to it.
Do It Regularly!
If you’re interested in a regular volunteering opportunity with a local community group or with a student-led volunteering project, call into the V&C office and sign up to our database. All of the current opportunities are displayed on the notice boards for you to choose from. If you’re not sure what you’d like to do, or the opportunity you’d like isn’t on the boards, you can book an appointment with Anna Rexton from the vinvolved project to help you find what you’re looking for. You can contact her by e-mail A.Rexon@adm.leeds.ac.uk or arrange to meet her in the V&C office by making an appointment at the V&C reception.
Lead It!
If you would like to lead a volunteering project, you have three options
- Come to the office and let us know about an idea for a project which you have.
- Sign up to lead one of the prokects which the local community has asked us to develop
- Register your interest in taking over a student-led volunteering society
We can support you to develop your project, through all of the project planning stages including budgeting and fundraising and finally recruiting and supporting your own team of volunteers. Just book an appointment with Isabel, the Volunteer Development Coordinator.
