Start a Club or Society
Can’t find a society that caters for your interests and want to start your own?
Any member of Leeds University Union can start their own activity.
All you need is an idea and 20 people willing to join your group.
Just follow the steps below to start your own society.
Plan
Download and complete a Student Activity Group formation form here (doc).
Alternatively, download a PDF version of the Formation Form or pick up one from the Helpdesk in the LUU foyer.
Once you’ve completed your form, please send it to Josh Landy, the Activities Officer, or drop it into the Exec Office for his attention.
Meet
Arrange a meeting with the relevant Development Coordinator in the ARC or the Activities Officer in the Exec to talk through your ideas and make sure you have thought through everything you would do as a group.
The Activities Assembly will then make a decision based on your application.
Begin
There’s plenty of support available to new societies; you’ll be introduced to your Development Coordinator and given information about the services available to new activity groups.
If you want help spreading the word about your new society and building up your membership, the Activities Officer will be able to advise on the avenues available to you.
Give it a Go
To help you start your activity, we have the Give it a Go programme.
Anyone who wants to start an activity will be offered the chance to run a session as part of Give it a Go to encourage people to come along to the activity and join in.
This is a great chance to introduce your society to the student body and let them see what you’re about.
