Atheist
LUU Atheist Society is here to represent free thinking students on campus. Atheists, Humanists, secularists, Pastafarians, Brights and agnostics all fall under our umbrella and we have plenty of religious members interested in promoting discussion and secularism too.
We have a broad member base from many different backgrounds from atheists all the way to Christians, Muslims and other religious practitioners, ranging from freshers' to postgraduates and staff members.
The aims of the society are to promote atheist views on campus, provide an environment for secular discussion and represent the non-religious community on campus.
We are a very active society, running 4-5 events per week during term time and we have events running throughout the year including the holidays. These include a mix of talks, debates, socials, courses, trips and awareness events. See our full events timetable.
Our major events of the year include our Darwin Day and Galileo Day celebrations, interfaith panels, our weekend in London and our annual awareness week which takes place in April and is arguably the biggest such event on campus with up to 40 events taking place during the week.
We also hold the unofficial title of being the biggest free thinking student society in the country and as discussed above, certainly the most active. We were a founding member of the National Federation of Atheist, Humanist and Secular Student Societies more commonly known as the AHS.
